The Flexible and Core Workforce

Flexible Workforce

A flexible workforce is the staff members ready to respond to challenges and change situations during the working process. Their outstanding and varied skills and knowledge explain employees’ ability to easily and quickly switch from one operation to another (Miller, 2019). The significant advantage of the flexible workforce is the support of innovations and possible developmental areas (Miller, 2019). Such diversified opportunities may be opened because the employees are ready to adapt to different working conditions. The significant disadvantages here are the problems with the management and the recruiting process. It is complicated for the employers to find flexible professionals. Moreover, it is essential to ensure a high level of work satisfaction. As a result of the more diverse tasks, the leadership approach, the communication establishment and working process management become more complex. It makes it difficult for some employee groups to follow (for example, aged people). Such an approach is relevant for the younger group of employees because its representation is usually highly adaptive.

Core Workforce

The core workforce includes the employees who are responsible for the company’s primary services and functions. The prevalent advantage of the core workforce is stability and predictability, which allows for the establishment of efficient strategic planning (Thibodeaux, n.d.). One of the most significant disadvantages of the core workforce method is the lack of adaptational resources. Today’s market requires a high level of response to constantly changing conditions. It is difficult for the core employees to react rapidly to the changing conditions because they are centered on supporting the company’s significant functions. Therefore, the core type of work can be better performed by mature people (age minorities) or people with disabilities.

Outsourcing

Outsourcing is the transfer of non-core functions to companies to third parties. The advantage of outsourcing strategies is minimising the expenditures for work because there is no need to provide the working space for the employees. Other advantages are improving the quality of non-core services and focus on the company’s core business (Mai, 2020). Such an approach allows the employees to focus more on core activities due to reassigning some of the tasks. The disadvantages of outsourcing strategies are that misunderstanding can often occur, resulting in lower-than-expected quality of work. The employees will be put in stressful situations, affecting their motivation. Outsourcing is suitable for employee groups, including active and flexible people ready to communication difficulties with the outsourcing company.
